Our Christmon Tree from Advent and Christmas 2012, which had been decorated with Christian symbols and white lights and had formed the centrepiece of our Christmas Eve Family service, is transformed during Lent into a plain wooden cross.
Then, on Easter Sunday, our Flower Committee stage an Easter transformation and turn that plain cross into a floral cross, symbolising the new life of Christ's Resurrection.
On Pentecost Sunday (12th June) we then burn this Easter cross in the Cathedral courtyard - symbolising the flames of the Holy Spirit's fire.
We thus, in symbol, complete the cycle of the Christian year from incarnation, through suffering to Resurrection, and beyond to the gift of the Spirit and the sending out of the disciples to be witnesses to the ends of the earth.
